PCSD Outbreak in Boston Sports Community
55PCSD, or ProSport Contract Stress Disorder has broken out across much of New England. With the New York Yankees signing Mark Teixeira, numerous NFL teams after most of the New England Patriots coaches and front office personnel and perennial bowl contender Boston College firing it's football coach over interviewing with the New Jersey Jets it's obvious that this dreaded ailment is rapidly expanding around the New england environs.
Of course New Englands' epicenter, Boston, has always been a breeding ground for Pro Contract Stress Disorder, since the day Babe Ruth was sold off to the Bronx Bombers to fund a very bad play. And in the 21st century, given the inordinate success of Boston area sports teams it's no wonder the competition has their eyes(and checkbooks) focused on key componants of the winners infrastructure, the leading cause of PCSD. The Yankees signing of Mark Teixeira has exacerbated the outbreak of PCSD, with fans howling for the signing of everyone from Barry Bonds to the re-signing of problem child Manny Ramirez to trading every starting arm available for the unavailable Albert Pujols, but one of the issues PCSD causes is that of turning normaly lucid sports fans into babbling idiots. Even with the fandom of the 2008 NBA champion Boston Celtics, the call is rising now for the addition of Stephon Marbury, who is being paid NOT to play, prctice or even show up at games by the hapless Knicks! Because of the inflammation of the brain pan caused by this illness, somehow fans that were last year thrilled to have their team simply relevent again are now deluded to the point that they view "Starbury" as the calvary.
Due to the insidious nature of PCSD, recurrent success is no immunization against this ailment, either. The New England Patriots fans are a prime example. After each season in the 21st century, their coaching and player staff is decimated by free agency and defections to head coaching positions and in blog commentary you can almost see the fear and on the radio you can hear the teeth grinding! Even after being led to the brink of a division title by a QB that hadn't started a game since High School before this season and the loss of SIX stars to injury, the hair-pulling, gut-wrenching fear caused by PCSD is evident. The Pats fans are near howling for management to pay their backup QB $10-14 million for the upcoming season and this discussion is as important as any in many circles.
PCSD doesn't just effect the blue collar or those involved in professional sports. Take the case of Boston College, BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo & former BC Eagles football coach Jeff Jagodzinski. It's obvious that PCSD led Jagodzinski to interview for the New Jersey Jets head coaching position though he had only fulfilled 2 years of a 5 year contract with BC, just as it led former N.E. Patriots defense coordinator Eric Mangini, then leading him to accuse former boss and constant nemisis Bill Belichick of everything short of 9/11. And it was PCSD that led A.D. Defillipo to fire his popular and successful coach for simply taking an interview. Though he's well within his rights(or at least within the school lawyers skills) to do so, it seems a rather rash response to someone who could simply be testing the waters for his eventual worth.
It COULD Happen To YOU!
But that's what PCSD is, a syndrome that causes rash and irrational behaviour, an ailment that can debilitate the clearest of minds and corrupt the purest of hearts! I was shocked we picked up Bradly. Manny is also a shock this late in the season and Bobby. Mitch was on the new MLB channel this weekend. I was SO excited! But he hasn't been back on since. I hope they have him back from time to time. It made me smile that you know who Wild Thang is!! You HAVE to be a fan to know that!! Keep the hubs coming!

I'm shocked this year at the number of big name players not signed yet. We are into Janurary and camp starts in a matter of weeks. I understand this disease as I am a loyal Mitch Williams fan. Big Tex is a good sign for them. Great hub!
