Alternative Energy and The Ground Up Revolution

We, as members of a society and indigneous to Earths financial and geographical environment, need to take an active approach and move the alternative energy agenda forward, even if we do it on a personal level as those that are willing to wrangle do so on the public and political levels.  Calling legislators, starting petition initiatives or finding worthy initiatives and assisting in them. Actions as simple as posting relevent petitions to forums and message boards, wrting editorials and letters to the editor of your local paper, creating pertinent hubs, lenses and blogs are all ways to get involved politically and publicly.

Living As A Revolutionary

On a personal level DO things like driving less, driving sanely, converting to alternative energy sources, equipment and goods. It may seem silly but keeping a carrybag handy in the car when you pop into the store to pick up a couple of things can save quite a few resources over time. The chain groceries seem hell bent for leather to foist as many of those plastic bags on you as they can!

You've heard of biodiesel, right? For some strange reason corporate media has no interest in presenting success stories regarding biodiesel and when it DID start getting serious press, petroleum dropped through the floor, though demand didn't drop off that much  and "Drill Here, Drill NOW" certainly hasn't pumped anymore into the public use.  That odd coincidence aside, now(especially since the "oil crisis" seems to have been averted) appears to be a particularly good time to begin investing,  on a personal and daily level, in biodiesel on the road AND at home. That's right, at home. What many fail to realize that even as WVO(waste vegetable oil~the stuff your french fries were swimming in a short while ago)  can be used as effectively in a home as it can in a car!   Yep, your oil burner at home can burn canola, peanut & other oils!

And for those that didn't know, biodiesel is only one of numerous biofuels available, and I'm not talking about ethanol(a fuel promoted primarily to help corporate agriculture make a buck), either.

The Wind Blows Free and Big Biz Isn't Pleased

If you were to ask around the boardrooms of "American" businesses, the powers that be may well tell you that giving away energy for free is just "unAmerican".

I, personally, have heard that the concepts of solar and/or wind energy were "naive", "ridiculous" and "science fiction". Granted, this was some years ago when the push to build more nuclear power plants was going strong, even after it was discovered that one of the industries methods for waste "disposal" was to dump barrels into the ocean, then shoot them full of holes to make them sink. Still, it was years after I initially read this article in Mother Earth news.

Yet, here we are, in the 21st century and solar, wind and geothermal are all free and viable energy sources that will not only save you money but save all of us pain in the short term future.

And not only will these technologies save you money, in many cases home and business owners are able to generate enough electricity to sell back to the utilities!

"Actionable" Intel

Right now, in America, most cities and towns, most communities think they have an alternative agenda growing because they have curbside glass and can pickup.  If, IF, you folk that are reading this thought it through what OTHER ideas could you come up with to asist your community in helping a REAL alternative energy agenda to blossum? Could you get together wih a High School science teacher to have students start a biodiesel pilot program for the Town/City DPW, where the various restaurants donate their WVO and the shop classes work with the DPW to covert certain pieces of diesel equipment to use veggie oil? Get one of the community land/industrial barons to contribute some space(Lord knows there's PLENTY ofcomercial/industrial space available)  and perhaps a few dollars to help the community from which he/she derives a living. Think that idea through...

What could it save your community? What could it GIVE your students?

And it's just ONE idea.

Save Some Money AND Save Your World?

Your level of involvement in the Green Revolution is up to you, of course, but all the warning signs seem to be saying that one way or the other, you're going to end up "involved" whether you like it or not, just as you were involved when gasoline prices skyrocketed.

If you would rather have, or create, an effect than be affected, it's easy to find the intel and tools you need. One such place to start(and perhaps finish) your search might be BioBarneys.com, purveyors of discount solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative energy supplies.

Another such location is GreenEnergySupply.biz with an excellent supply of Compact Flourescent & LED lighting, wind turbines and kits and many other eco friendly specialties.

And, please, avail yourself of the recommended reading here as the ideas are where it all starts.
